At Queenswell Schools, Physical Education (P.E.) is centred around providing high-quality teaching and learning experiences that not only enhance students’ P.E. skills but also improve their fitness and overall health. We believe that by teaching in a safe, encouraging, and engaging environment, we can help children strengthen their knowledge, skills, and abilities, which are essential for their mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. Our goal is for all pupils to develop a genuine enthusiasm for P.E., actively participate in lessons, maintain a positive attitude toward learning, and bring creativity and imagination into their techniques, whether in strategy or choreography.

Our P.E. curriculum fosters enjoyment, challenge, resilience, and collaboration through a wide variety of activities, including netball, tag rugby, basketball, striking and field games, gymnastics, dance, and swimming. This is achieved by aligning with the National Curriculum objectives and using our curriculum overview, which reflects our school values, to build knowledge and ensure a progressive development of skills. We follow Complete PE’s structured scheme of work, which ensures that all lessons are progressive, cohesive, and provide opportunities for students to master essential skills at each year level.

Students participate in two hours of PE a week taught by class teachers. Lessons focus not only on fitness but also on key questions and vocabulary, allowing pupils to approach their learning in a thoughtful and reflective way. They also learn the fundamental rules of various games and experience the excitement of competition, all while fostering positive sporting attitudes.

Queenswell Schools encourages participation in extracurricular activities and provides opportunities beyond the school day for children from all backgrounds. Pupils attend local sporting events and participate in
